microFAST

The revolutionary anti-icing spray technology!

Fixed Automated Spray Technology increases road, runway, and taxiway safety. This in turn decreases the costs for interventions, and the environment benefits from reduced salting.

microFAST Technology

Using the microFAST technology developed by Boschung and patented worldwide, the anti-icing agent is applied to pavement surfaces in a fine, invisible and dense stream.

The spraying period and the volume of anti-icing agent is individually configured and automatically controlled by the FAST system, where preventative spraying can be utilized to avoid ice buildup.

microFAST technology is reliable and requires minimal maintenance. With a maximum installed depth of 40 mm, the system can be easily installed and operated at any location, including on runways and taxiways, grooved or not.

Spraying

During spraying, the stream of anti-icing agent is atomized and, as a result, is invisible to users. Landing and departing aircraft immediately distribute the anti-icing agent over the runway surface.

The spraying period can be adjusted from 30 seconds to 3 minutes, where 30 seconds is equivalent to approximately 2 g/m² of salt.

Technical Description

The patented microFAST high-pressure fine spraying system consists of a 100 meter long strip with built-in nozzle bodies which, as a general rule, are installed at 5-meter intervals. The anti-icing agent is evenly distributed onto the road surface in the form of an invisible spray mist.

Check valves are incorporated into the nozzle bodies in order to prevent the ingestion of dirt. As a result, the system is virtually maintenance-free.

In the event of an ice hazard, the spraying process can be activated automatically using the FAST system. The spraying period can be adjusted as required (from 30 seconds to 3 minutes), thus ensuring that the optimum amount of anti-icing agent is applied. As part of a regular de-icing program, or in the event of unplanned operations requiring multiple sprays, the system can be perfectly adapted to suit the existing conditions.

In addition to the pump, the pump station incorporates a control unit and a storage tank for the anti-icing agent.

Pump Station

pumpstation 510

Pump Station

The Pump station consists of a storage tank for the anti-icing agent, a pump and an electronic control unit. The unit is flexibly mounted and can be adapted to suit any local conditions.

pump

Pump

The vertical stainless steel rotary pump pressurizes any liquid anti-icing with a maximum operating pressure of 16 bar.

pressuremonitor

Pressure Monitor

The pressure monitor constantly checks the pressure in the spray circuit. When the system is inactive, it is checked hourly or against programmable cycles.

controlunit

Control Unit

The FAST control unit monitors and controls the entire system:

  • Solenoid valve controller in the valve units
  • Monitoring the hydraulic circuit (pump control, pressure and flow rate)
  • Monitoring the electrical circuit (short or open circuits)
  • Automatic refilling of the tank
  • Release of spray programs manually, by PC or by GFS alarms
flowmeter

Flow Meter

The flow meter is used to compare a calculated value with the actual value of the amount of anti-icing used during a spray program. This allows any leaking or defective points in the circuit to be detected and immediate measures to be taken.

tankmonitoring

Tank Monitoring

The anti-icing fluid tank is fitted with a float and an ultrasound sensor. The float switches the pump off if the level falls below the minimum. The ultrasound sensor displays the current level as a percentage on the PC in the control center. It also provides an alarm if the content of the tank is too low and gives an acoustic and visual alarm when the maximum level is reached during filling.

storagetank

Storage Tank

The size of the storage tank is determined on the basis of the number of spray nozzles and the rate of flow of the anti-icing agent.

Building Possibilities

The microFAST control unit can be fitted with ease in any runway.
