microFAST Technology

Boschung America’s microFAST system, patented worldwide, allows the anti-icing agent to be applied to various types of road surfaces in a fine mist invisible to the driver. The spraying period and the volume of the anti-icing agent can be individually configured and automatically controlled by the TMS spray controller to match appropriate chemical application rates for specific conditions. This ensures the system is delivering the exact amount of chemical needed to keep the road safe without over treating.

Ideal for two-lane roadways, ramps, parking garages, and many other applications, it’s also available in microFASTkit for a do-it-yourself installation.

mfast wagenmfast spruehblockDuring spraying, the stream of anti-icing solution is atomized and, as a result, it is nearly invisible to the public. The moving traffic immediately distributes the anti-icing solution over the entire road surface. By using one spray strip, the entire width of two lanes can be sprayed in one operation.

The spraying period can be adjusted from 30 seconds to 3 minutes, to suit specific pavement treatment needs.

Technical Description

The patented microFAST spraying system consists of a 100 meter long strip with built-in nozzle bodies which, as a general rule, are installed at 5-meter intervals. Check valves are incorporated into the nozzle bodies in order to prevent contaminants from entering the spray strip, as a result, the system has low maintenance needs.

In the event of an ice hazard, the spraying process can be activated in combination with an Ice Early Warning System (GFS 3000). The spraying period can be adjusted as required (from 30 seconds to 3 minutes), thus ensuring that the optimum amount of anti-icing agent is applied. With various spraying programs, a number of spray nozzles or multiple spraying operations, the system can be perfectly adapted to suit the existing conditions.

Pump Station

The Pump station consists of a storage tank for the anti-icing agent, a pump and an electronic control unit. The unit is flexibly mounted and can be adapted to suit any local conditions.



The vertical stainless steel rotary pump pressurizes any liquid anti-icing with a maximum operating pressure of 16 bar.


Pressure Monitor

The pressure monitor constantly checks the pressure in the spray circuit. When the system is inactive, it is checked hourly or against programmable cycles.




Control Unit

The FAST control unit monitors and controls the entire system:

  • Solenoid valve controller in the valve units
  • Monitoring the hydraulic circuit (pump control, pressure and flow rate)
  • Monitoring the electrical circuit (short or open circuits)
  • Automatic refilling of the tank
  • Release of spray programs manually, by PC or by GFS 3000 alarms

Flow Meter

The flow meter is used to compare a calculated value with the actual value of the amount of anti-icing used during a spray program. This allows any leaking or defective points in the circuit to be detected and immediate measures taken.


Tank Monitoring

The anti-icing fluid tank is fitted with a float and an ultrasound sensor. The float switches the pump off if the level falls below the minimum. The ultrasound sensor displays the current level as a percentage on the PC in the control center. It also provides an alarm if the content of the tank is too low and gives an acoustic and visual alarm when the maximum level is reached during filling.


Storage Tank

The size of the storage tank is determined on the basis of the number of spray nozzles and the rate of flow of the anti-icing agent.
