Fixed Automated Spray Technology
Over several decades, the Boschung Fixed Automated Spray Technology (FAST) has proven its worth as stationary winter maintenance equipment. Many years of experience and ongoing development have resulted in a systematic solution which operates safely and ecologically. The spraying heads are embedded into the pavement surface and the valve units with all the active elements are installed at the side of the pavement. In cost-benefit analyses, the FAST achieves a very high cost-effectiveness factor.
The FAST installation consists of valve units and patented spray disks in the road surface; the spray disks are mounted just below the road surface and are protected against heavy weights and the abrasion caused by snow plows or vehicle tires.
The patented valve unit incorporates the solenoid valves, the control card and an accumulator tank. This tank stores chemical under pressure at the valve location for two purposes: One, to guarantee chemical is available at the disk; and two, to lessen the size of the feed lines and pump requirements which extend the length of the spraying system to more than 1,000 meters with a relatively small pump.
In addition to the pump, the pump station incorporates the control unit and the storage tank for the anti-icing agent.
In the event of an ice hazard, the spraying process can be activated in combination with a Ice Early Warning System (GFS 3000). The various spraying programs and multiple spraying operations allow the system to be perfectly adapted to suit the prevailing conditions.
The FAST system components are installed in protected areas off the road surface and are typically unseen by the traveling public. These components are are maintained when paving operations are required, thereby reducing the replacement costs and the overall effort to replace them.
Throughout many winters, the FAST system has proven itself in stationary winter service. Years of experience and continuous development have produced a systematic solution which is safe and environmentally friendly.
In cost/use analyses, the FAST system achieves a very high economic viability score.
